The XXIII International Congress for the Family invited dozens of speakers, among them, Steve Kellmeyer, who was asked to speak on the Theology of the Body.
During the course of the conference, the depth of the problems facing the Ukraine became clear. Rampant drug and alcohol abuse has brought enormous pressures to bear upon the family.
Husbands are typically drunk and abusive towards the wives and children. Abortions are common-place: it is not unusual for a woman to have had a half-dozen or more abortions before she turns thirty.
Meanwhile, the rate of population growth is among the lowest in Europe at 1.43 children per adult female, far below the replacement rate of 2.1. As is true for the rest of Europe, the Ukraine is slowly dying.
This 45-minute talk discusses the Theology of the Body from a Ukrainian perspective., incorporating a discussion of how the grand history of the Ukraine affects how they can respond to the crisis of love that threatens their country.
